My name is Gretchen Kane, and I make abstract art from a state of mindfulness derived from my many decades of spiritual practice.
In the 70’s and 80’s, along with painting and exhibiting, I became a master of etchings in Soho. In the early 90’s, I moved to the Hudson Valley where I’ve spent decades honing both my work and mediation practice.
My work today often begins with visualizations of the natural forms around me. Using rags, rollers, hands and sponges, the paintings reveal themselves. It is a very physical process.
With each painting, I step aside and allow the forms to be discovered rather than created. It’s a practice of abandonment and creation.
